Our Strategic Framework  

AMRIT is structured into 16 work packages, each focusing on a specific aspect of marine research and infrastructure development. These work packages are designed to foster collaboration, enhance data management, and ensure the effective dissemination of research findings.

WP1-3 Management - Led by ARMINES

The objectives of these WPs are to ensure an efficient and smooth coordination of the scientific and technical activities as well as the overall administration of the project. The main tasks consist of the overall coordination of the project, its scientific and technical management, as well as administrative, financial and contractual management, quality control procedures, internal evaluation and the management of intellectual property rights and data. It also addresses the general strategy for the evolution of European MRIs towards a more integrated model, which AMRIT addresses for the metadata issue..

WP4-WP5-WP6: Communication, Exploitation, and Dissemination - Led by Marine Institute

These WPs aim to maximise the impacts of the AMRIT by disseminating the concrete results of work completed in the project and communicating the results, products and concepts developed in the project to the relevant stakeholders.

WP7-12 EOOS TSC implementation 

AMRIT will be developing the digital EOOS TSC ecosystem by gathering developers from AMRIT partners using the AGILE Scrum Team approach. It will build on requirements gathered from the whole community, both inside and outside AMRIT. It will serve operators and end users. This ecosystem of services  will serve sea operators, scientists and end users involved in in-situ ocean observation.

WP7: EOOS Integrated System Performance Monitoring Dashboard - Led by WMO

The newly developed monitoring dashboard will serve all EOOS implementers (and beyond) to share, federate and aggregate their day to day operations. It will organise the conditions to share and integrate development resources (EOOS pool of developers) across the partners to support WP7,8,9,10.
The newly designed monitoring dashboard empowers all EOOS implementers and partners to seamlessly share, integrate, and track daily operations. It fosters collaboration, enabling the efficient pooling of development resources across partners to support WP7, 8, 9, and 10 work packages where software is developed.

WP8: EOOS Federated Metadata Nodes (APIs) - Led by WMO

This WP connects each EOOS metadata provider (nodes) through APIs for a sustained information flow, and enriches the current global monitoring capabilities with coastal systems and Research Vessel (R/V) schedules in particular.
WP8 connects EOOS metadata providers through robust APIs, ensuring a continuous flow of valuable information. This initiative enhances global monitoring capabilities, particularly for coastal systems and Research Vessel (R/V) schedules, offering more comprehensive insights into ocean observations.

WP9: EOOS Operations Support Services - Led by Ifremer

This WP develops and gives free and unrestricted access to a common European software capacity supporting operators at sea:
●    a mobile application using tags on instruments to capture metadata and track platforms lifecycle and status.
●    specific tools, specifically for subsurface systems (floats, gliders, CTDs, moorings). 
This work package provides free, unrestricted access to a unified European software suite that supports sea operators. Key tools include a mobile app for capturing metadata via instrument tags, and specialized tools for managing subsurface systems like floats, gliders, CTDs, and moorings, enhancing operational efficiency at sea.

WP10: EOOS Data Support (Services and Tools) - Led by Ifremer 

This WP designs a science cloud native DAC/GDAC architecture for Ocean Observation Systems, deployable on RIs and EOSC infrastructures, and strengthens the Ocean Observing community (EOOS, GOOS) data developments on open source platforms. It feeds downstream data services such as WIS 2.0, Copernicus, EMODnet or SeaDataNet.
WP10 designs a cloud-native architecture for Ocean Observation Systems, optimized for deployment on Research Infrastructures (RIs) and the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC). It strengthens the EOOS and GOOS communities by supporting open-source data developments and streamlining access to downstream services such as WIS 2.0, Copernicus, EMODnet, and SeaDataNet.

WP11: Stakeholder Uptake of EOOS Tools and Services - Led by EuroGOOS

This WP will promote EOOS tools and services to MRI operators, ensuring broad uptake of final products. It aims to train the MRI operators and broader observing community to use the developed AMRIT tools and services, and enhance EOOS’ integrated value and attractivity towards diverse stakeholders.
This work package focuses on promoting EOOS tools and services to MRI operators, ensuring widespread adoption of final products. By offering training for MRI operators and the broader ocean-observing community, it maximizes EOOS’ value and appeals to diverse stakeholders.

WP12: EOOS Data Uptake by Operational Centres - Led by MOi 

AMRIT provides quantitative and qualitative feedback from operational centres (CMEMS and C3S) to platform operators regarding data quality, quantity and timeliness of the observations through EOOS TSC dashboard, notification centre and API, to assess the value of the ocean observing system for specific applications like storms and in specific areas. It will Identify gaps and opportunities in the current observing system and provide recommendations for further improvement. 

AMRIT facilitates feedback from operational centres (CMEMS and C3S) to platform operators, providing insights into data quality, quantity, and timeliness. Through the EOOS TSC dashboard, notification center, and API, it helps assess the value of ocean observations for specific applications like storm forecasting. Additionally, WP12 identifies gaps and opportunities within the current observing systems and offers actionable recommendations for improvement.

WP13-15 EOOS TSC Federation 

An Essential Ocean variable (EOV) is a physical, chemical or biological variable, or a group of related variables, that contributes critically to the characterisation of the ocean. EOVs have a high impact on observation systems, high feasibility and a relatively low implementation cost. The aim here is to evaluate how the metadata services developed by AMRIT will improve the quality of EOV-based products.

WP13: Data Pathway of Blended EOVs - Led by EURO-ARGO ERIC

WP13 describes the current state of data pathways for blended EOVs including a gap analysis with a focus on data requirements from operational and scientific users. It also establishes existing methods for generating merged products. Focus will be on a subset of EOVs, namely temperature, oxygen and ocean colour, on both coastal and off-shore datasets.

WP14: Best Practices and Usability of Blended EOVs - Led by NORCE

WP14 will develop a blueprint for delivering data sets of EOVs from multiple platforms. Focus will be on the life cycle of the EOV from data collection to use. This will involve developing a comprehensive blueprint for metadata, best practices and secondary quality control. A suite of EOVs including temperature, oxygen and ocean colour (as cross-disciplinary EOV) will be considered.

WP15: Improvement of Global Data Products from Blended EOVs - Led by CSIC

The final WP of this group of WP will improve the global data products that integrate heterogeneous data derived from different RI’s with different methods of collection, accuracy, resolution, coverage and quality control, applying advanced methods of data fusion and objective analysis.

WP16: Sustained Federal Structure for the EOOS Technical Support Centre - Led by EuroGOOS

The EOOS TSC is the service that must support the efficiency of EOOS operations and enable the timely acquisition, transmission and exchange of high-quality metadata. WP16 will design the federal structure, including an organisational entity, that will operate the EOOS TSC, and will ensure its long-term sustainability, including hosting and funding model by the participating organisations.
