Strengthening the European Ocean Observing System
AMRIT is closely linked with the European Ocean Observing System (EOOS) framework, which is the current high-level initiative to bring about a real EOOS, to serve as the European component of the Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS)*.
The Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS) is a global system for sustained observations of the ocean comprising the oceanographic component of the Global Earth Observing System of Systems.
EOOS and GOOS rely heavily on Marine Research Infrastructures in Europe and elsewhere, which together with other international organizations such as the World Meteorological Organisation and the National Meteorological Services can guarantee their sustainability.
