The European Ocean Observing System (EOOS) and JPI Oceans have released the first two National Charts for ocean observing in Europe. They showcase Greece’s and Germany’s organisational structure. The approach and information is suitable to underpin AMRIT’s mission to unify and enhance European marine research infrastructures through collaborative data integration and sharing.
The European Ocean Observing System (EOOS) and JPI Oceans have launched the first two National Charts for ocean observing and monitoring in Europe, spotlighting Greece and Germany. These are intended to be the first of a series of National Charts for European Countries. The interactive charts provide a detailed overview of each country’s marine observing and monitoring landscape, highlighting national responsibilities, institutional involvements, and dataflows. The initiative supports AMRIT’s mission to reduce fragmentation and enhance coordination across Europe’s marine research infrastructures through collaborative data integration and sharing.
The National Charts project, led by JPI Oceans in its role as Chair of the EOOS Resource Forum, is a key step toward unifying European ocean observation systems. By identifying gaps in national monitoring efforts, encouraging cross-country learning, and promoting the adoption of best practices, the National Charts contribute to AMRIT's broader vision of a more cohesive and efficient European Ocean Observing System. This effort complements AMRIT’s goal of establishing a sustainable and coordinated EOOS Technical Support Centre. Synergies between AMRIT and the EOOS Resource Forum stakeholders are already ongoing!
